Canfei Ruach - "Wings of the Spirit"

come home cover

Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace

Proverbs 3:17

From her home, situated on the edge of the Jerusalem Forest, composer, singer, early childhood educator and healer Tirtza Singer combines her multiple talents to provide nourishment for body and soul.

Opening her own heart as well as her home, Tirtza offers a multitude of activities for women and children designed to inspire, refresh and rejuvenate, both physically and spiritually.

"I want to bring women together to support one another and to share, through their experiences, the majesty of life," Tirtza states.

Amidst the natural beauty of Jerusalem - a garden brimming with pomegranates, grapes and lemons, and the sounds of cascading water - Tirtza draws upon her own spiritual journey to impart a sense of tranquility and well-being through the various activities she offers:

Linking all what Tirtza does is her music. Inspired by her Jewish roots and Jewish neshama (soul), Tirtza's music, with its moving lyrics and haunting melodies, has a rich sweetness that brings tears to the eyes.

Linking all what Tirtza does is her music. Inspired by her Jewish roots and Jewish neshama (soul), Tirtza's music, with its moving lyrics and haunting melodies, has a rich sweetness that brings tears to the eyes.

Her voice, which reflects both her years in folk tradition, as well her operatic training, has been compared to a cross between Judy Collins and Julie Andrews. Tirtza's group, Canfei Ruach, which performs for women only, is just what its Hebrew name says - the Wings of the Spirit.

Tirtza invites you to treat yourself and your child to this world of nourishment and renewal, to delve into your neshama, to hear your inner voice and to soar on the wings of the spirit.

tirza's pic   After graduating from New York City's prestigious High School of Music and Art, she studied in Cambridge MA, receiving her BA and MA degrees in early childhood education. In parallel, she trained with a private voice teacher and piano teacher at the New England Conservatory of Music.

During her years in Cambridge, she performed at various campus nightspots as part of a folk singing duo.

Returning to New York after graduation, Tirtza studied music education for young children at the Dalcroze School of Music and the Manhattan School of Music, specializing in eurhythmics, improvisation and composition.

In 1981, she married Rob (Reuven) Singer, a physician from Scarsdale, NY, and moved to Stamford, CT. Tirtza began running mother and child music programs. Within several years, the family included two daughters - Rachel and Sara.

In 1984, the Singers made their first trip to Israel, a trip that was to change their lives. Reuven decided he wanted to keep a Torah-observant life. From this, began a long process which brought both Tirtza and her husband back to their Jewish roots.

In 1993, the family immigrated to Israel, settling in Jerusalem. "Once the plane landed, I knew that my soul had come home," Tirtza recalls.

Today, Tirtza uses her multi-talented background to nourish and strengthen women's spiritual lives. She performs for a wide range of all-female audiences both in Israel and abroad.
