A message I sent to several friends regarding this delightful experience I had :
Hi folks:
I got to see Jon Moerschel perform yesterday after he found me (on the
internet) and got in touch. Jon is a friend of mine from Boston. He is a radio
ham and we got to know each other sharing radio ham experiences. But because
Jon was a classical musician to-be, I felt a special affinity for him. After
all, I have been a big time classical music lover since I was a kid too.
Jon left Boston in 1997 to study the viola at USC. He liked it and stayed there. Then, a year later I moved to California myself - Northern California. During those years we did not stay in touch. I had no idea what Jon was doing, until, thanks to email, he found me and, like I said, contacted me. He was playing in Northern California and did I want to come to see him? I most certainly did. And the rest you know from visiting this website.
Here are my personal observations about the "The Bach Dancing and Dynamite Society," (venue) and about the Calder concerts.
The place is a large private home converted - in part - into a small theater and lounge. There are two bars, a deck, a dining area overlooking the ocean and the recital hall. There is a small balcony in the loft overlooking the stage - where I sat. The only lights on stage consisted mainly of red and orange spots and floodlights giving the whole stage a warm and cozy feel.
As it turned out the weather was beautiful and the trip down was likewise beautiful - I gave myself so much time I arrived 3 hours early! But the great weather allowed me to bask in the sunshine and to relax.
It was a great day, with great weather, a beautiful setting, good food and music and good friends. You can't beat that.
Here are pictures of Jon, his friend Josephine and me -
